Micron started in Idaho as a semiconductor design consulting company and developed into a manufacturer in the 1980's after it was funded by local businessmen. In 1996, ZEOS International, Micron Computer, and Micron Custom Manufacturing Services merged to become Micron Electronics, then IM Flash Technologies and IM Flash Singapore were started as joint ventures with Intel. In 2002, Micron, along with Hynix; Infineon; Elpida; and Samsung, plead guilty to price fixing but were not fined due to their cooperation with investigators
