RCA Semiconductors is known for its transistors, analog ICs, digital ICs, diodes and regulators. RCA was originally named Radio Corporation of America and was started by GE in 1919 in cooperation with the US government in order to regain a monopoly of long-distance radio communications. GE was forced to sell its rights to RCA due to an antitrust charge in 1930, but was able to regain leadership in 1986. Harris Corporation acquired GE's semiconductor businesses, which included RCA, in 1988 which were then spun off as part of Intersil in 1999.
