Samsung joined the semiconductor industry when it purchased Korea Semiconductor in 1974, and presently is considered to be one of the world's largest producers of OLEDs and memory chips. Although Samsung is a popular brand, it is not without its troubles such as exploding telephones causing injuries, a lawsuit by Apple Inc., and fines for both price fixing and a smear campaign launched against its competitors. All in all, Samsung has accomplished its goal to rise above it's earlier reputation of being a ?budget brand,? and supplies components for Apple, Sony, Dell, and Nokia.
